Hazardous Materials Regulations

FAITHFULNESS. INTEGRITY. RESPECT. EXCELLENCE.

The Community Risk Reduction Division regulates and enforces the provisions of the California Fire Code relating to hazardous materials to ensure the health and safety of those working with the materials, our emergency personnel, the public, and the environment. Hazardous materials are a part of everyday life, and depending on the business you own or work for, certain processes and materials require operational fire code permits. The permitting process and quantities for fire code operational permits differ from those specified under the CUPA program through San Bernardino County.

Fire code operational permits related to the use and storage of hazardous materials include, but are not limited to the following: compressed gases, flammable or combustible liquids, corrosives, poisons, oxidizers, explosives, reactive (unstable) materials, organic peroxides, pyrophoric materials, water-reactive materials, carcinogens, and radioactive materials.

If you have questions about how hazardous materials may impact your business or about required permits, please contact our office by email at firemarshal@chofire.org.

For permitting information, please visit our Permits and Plan Review Page.
