Biography

Thomas Haughey moved to Chino in 1977. He owns Haughey Insurance Agency, which has been in Chino since 1980. Tom and his wife, Karen, have two sons, Christopher, 42, and Patrick, 39. Tom is an avid Civil War enthusiast. Not only does he collect Civil War memorabilia, he also lectures on the history of the Civil War and the history of photography.

Tom served as a Chino City Council Member for almost 20 years, retiring in 2020. He served on the Chino Planning Commission in 2001. He served as Chino’s Representative to several boards such as the Chino Valley Fire District, Chino Basin Desalter Authority, Ontario International Airport Inter Agency Collaborative, and was alternate on the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA). He was active on the Economic Development Committee and was the Vice Chairperson of the Public Financing Authority. Additionally, he served as a representative on the Water Facilities Authority Board of Directors and Investment Advisory Committee. Tom was appointed to the San Bernardino County Planning Commission and served two years. In the community, Tom is a Board Member with The Chino Valley YMCA. He served as Vice Chair of the Board, and as Chairman of the Chino Valley YMCA’s Annual Sustaining Campaign for many years.

In between all of this, Tom has always found time to spend time with Karen, his wife of 49 years, and their two sons, Christopher and Patrick. Tom coached both his sons’ Little League teams through 9 years of games, and coached his wife’s women’s slo-pitch softball team for 8 years.

In 1999, Tom received the Champion Newspaper’s Chino Citizen of the Year. In 2001, Tom, along with Karen, was awarded the Chino Outstanding Layman Service Award. Tom also received the 2003 Fred L. Burns Award from the Chino Valley Independent Fire District and C.H.E.I.F.S. Foundation. In 2021, Tom received the West End YMCA Bridge Builder Award and in 2022, Tom was awarded the Rancho Del Chino Club Champion Award. Tom finds community service work very fulfilling and rewarding. He looks forward to continuing his service to the community for many years to come.
