Heart Safe Community Program

FAITHFULNESS. INTEGRITY. RESPECT. EXCELLENCE.

Every second counts when it comes to sudden cardiac arrest. The Chino Valley Fire District has partnered with the Chino Valley Fire Foundation in an effort to empower community members to take action by making automated external defibrillators readily accessible in public places and teaching the public life-saving intervention skills that are easy to learn.

WHAT IS A HEART SAFE COMMUNITY?

Heart Safe Community is a program designed to increase survival from sudden out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. It is a general concept focused upon strengthening the “chain of survival” as described by the American Heart Association.

The Heart Safe Community program recognizes and stimulates efforts by individual communities to improve their system for preventing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) from becoming irreversible death.

Examples of criteria include:

  • Preventative Care Education/Outreach
  • Early recognition and activation of the 9-11 system
  • Early CPR
  • Early Defibrillation
  • Ongoing efforts to improve first responders approach to managing sudden cardiac arrest

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS

Several AEDs have been placed in various community buildings throughout the Chino Valley, but more are needed.

The Fire District partnered with the Chino Valley Fire Foundation, the Chino Police Foundation, Chino Valley Medical Center, the Chino Hills Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriffs – Chino Hills Substation to show a unified commitment to making the Chino Valley a heart safe community.
