WHAT IS A HEART SAFE COMMUNITY?
HeartSafe Community is a program designed to increase survival from sudden out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. It is a general concept focused upon strengthening the “chain of survival,” as described by the American Heart Association.
The HeartSafe Community program recognizes and stimulates efforts by individual communities to improve their system for preventing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) from becoming irreversible death.
Examples of criteria include:
- Preventative Care Education/Outreach
- Early recognition and activation of the 9-11 system
- Early CPR
- Early Defibrillation
- Ongoing efforts to improve first responders’ approach to managing sudden cardiac arrest
AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS
Several AEDs have been placed in various community buildings throughout the Chino Valley, but more are needed.
Chino Valley Fire partnered with the Chino Valley Fire Foundation, the Chino Police Foundation, Chino Valley Medical Center, the Chino Hills Police Department, San Bernardino County Sheriffs – Chino Hills Substation to show a unified commitment to making the Chino Valley a HeartSafe community.
DONATIONS
The Chino Valley Fire Foundation relies on donations to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
