On March 9, 2022, Chino Valley Fire District Board of Directors adopted Resolution No. 2022-02, establishing the election of members of the Board by five divisions and establishing the boundaries of each division. The adoption of Resolution No. 2022-02 completed the transition to by-division elections as per the California Voting Rights Act process.
Beginning with the November 2022 election, members of the Board of Directors of the Chino Valley Fire District shall be elected by-division, in the five (5) single-member divisions shown and numbered on the map titled Chino Valley Fire District By-Division Electoral Map.

• At the November, 2022 General District Election, and every four years thereafter, the following two Board divisions shall be elected by-division: Division 3 and Division 5.
• At the November, 2024 General District Election, and every four years thereafter, the following three Board divisions shall be elected by-division: Division 1, Division 2 and Division 4.

The Board of Directors consists of five (5) members, all non-partisan, serving staggered four-year terms. General District Elections are held in November of even numbered years.

BY-DIVISION ELECTORAL PROJECT

BACKGROUND

The Fire District Board of Directors declared its intention to transition from an at-large to a by-division electoral system to comply with the California Rights Act (CVRA). The Fire District currently has an “at-large” electoral system where voters from the entire Fire District vote for all members of the Board of Directors. This is in contrast to a “by-division” electoral system where the jurisdiction is divided into smaller divisions and a candidate must reside within that division in order to be elected by voters residing within that division.

The following schedule was used in completing the Fire District By-Division Electoral Project. The project was completed on April 17, 2021. All supporting documents can be found below under the Fire District By-Division Electoral Project Documents.
