CVFD Announces Fred L. Burns Award Recipient

Feb 23, 2024 | News Releases

The Chino Valley Fire District is proud to recognize Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) Director Steven Elie as the 2023 recipient of the Fred L. Burns Community Service Award. Director Elie has been instrumental in making the Chino Valley safer through his involvement and support of the Chino Valley Fire Foundation’s HeartSafe and BleedSafe community programs.

The HeartSafe and BleedSafe programs are designed to increase survival rates from out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest and from potentially preventable causes of death due to trauma by not only making Automated External Defibrillators and Trauma Kits readily accessible to the public, but by also teaching the public how to use those life-saving devices.

Director Elie has donated funds to install three Automated External Defibrillators and Trauma Kits at public establishments throughout the Chino Valley and has received training on how to use the equipment.

The installation of multiple public access AEDs and Trauma Kits have helped the Fire District develop a more ready and resilient community in response to sudden cardiac arrest and trauma. He has also donated funds to other Chino Valley Fire Foundation programs that directly benefit the communities we serve.

“Director Elie has demonstrated his commitment to enhancing public safety in the Chino Valley through his involvement and generous donations,” said Chino Valley Fire District Board President Harvey Luth.

The Fred L. Burns Community Service Award was established to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Chino Valley Fire District in the area of furthering the District’s Mission Statement and/or who has made a significant contribution to the Chino Valley Community in the area of community service in support of public safety.

The Chino Valley Fire District is proud to honor Director Elie’s work to keep our communities safer from the detrimental effects of sudden cardiac arrest and trauma.
